On the island…

Kayak
The beautiful clear waters surrounding the island make for a wonderful time just paddling around. The regular sightings of dolphin and manatee make the effort that much more rewarding. Remember your sunscreen and a bottle of water.

Bike
Touring the island by bike can be very relaxing. With no traffic to worry about and no rush to be anywhere in particular you can peddle as fast or slow as you would like. During the drier times the peddling may become more difficult but that is just another great reason to stop under a palm tree for a well deserved break.

Hike / Nature Watch
Walking through the nature preserve really lets you step back in time to “old florida”. With plentiful wildlife all around (yes bugs too) make sure to have your camera at the ready. Hundreds of acres of untouched lands offer ample opportunity for encounters with birds, turtles and more. Pack a lunch and remember to stop and take a break along a sandy stretch of beach. Please remember to leave the area as you found it.

Shelling
Although its sister island Sanibel seems to be known more for shelling I would argue that the best shelling is right here. Get out early for a invigorating walk at sunrise and browse through all the treasures that await you at waters edge. You’ll be amazed at the array of shapes, colors and sizes. Each time you go out you’re sure to find something different.

Boat Rental
Boats are available to rent from Boats and Fun. Take them to Cayo Costa, Captiva, Cabbage Key, go fishing or just ride around and check out the dolphins playing in the surf. Half day, all day and multiple day rentals are available.
